The Municipality of Shelburne will present its proclamation for African Heritage Month at a very fitting location.
People with gather at the Black Loyalist Heritage Centre in Birchtown on Friday.
The two-hour event will begin at 10am.
Vanessa Fells of the heritage centre says this year will honour both the past and present.
“What we’re looking to do this year is not only celebrate our history, which goes back several hundred of years, but look to the future. We’re going to recognize many of our champions and people who have moved African Nova Scotians forward.”
Fells says they are also looking to inspire youths.
Birchtown is one of over 50 historic African Nova Scotian communities in the province.
This year’s African Heritage Month is titled “Passing The Torch; African Nova Scotians and the next 150.
