Nova Scotia saw little growth over the last five years.
Statistics Canada released a first glimpse today of the 2016 census.
The number of people living in this province rose by 0.2% since the last census in 2011.
That translates to just under 924,000 people living in Nova Scotia.
Prince Edward Island recorded the fastest increase in Atlantic Canada at 1.9%, followed by Newfoundland and Labrador at 1%.
The population declined 0.5% in New Brunswick, the only province or territory to record a decrease from 2011 to 2016.
Overall, Canada’s population topped the 35 million mark, and grew five percent in the past five years.
Two-thirds of the population growth in Canada is because of immigration.
Ontario remains the largest province with 13.4 million people.
