A fundraiser in Queens County is helping child amputees get artificial limbs.
The 8th annual ‘On the Rocks’ at White Point Beach Resort raised just over $3,000 for the War Amps CHAMPS program.
Champs are child amputees who are born without a limb, or lost one because of an accident or due to illness.
Mark Allison, a 17 year-old from Hunts Point, lost his right leg below the knee to cancer when he was three years-old.
He’s happy to see money going to the program.
“The War Amps are able to help me with fundraising and be who I am today, pretty much.”
Allison has been involved with the CHAMPS program for about 11 years and hopes to keep spreading the word about War Amps.
The money will help about 10 to 12 kids in the South Shore.
