Bridgewater Explores Wind Energy

The wind of change is blowing in Bridgewater.

The town is exploring the idea of partnering with other communities to build a new wind farm.

Mayor David Walker says they’re looking at some land near the South Canoe Wind Project between Vaughn and New Russell.

“First step is to have a study done,” he says. “There’s four partners so far who’ve said ‘yes we’re interested in the study aspect,’ and the study will firm up the numbers by September, I think it is.”

The cost of the $60,000 study will be shared among all interested municipalities.

That includes Bridgewater, the Municipality of Chester, the Municipality of Antigonish, Wolfville and the Municipality of Lunenburg, so far.

Walker says they’re waiting on two more communities to make an official commitment.

He says they plan to make a final decision before a new council is elected in October.
