MODL: Downe Not Re-Offering For Mayor

There will be a new mayor this fall in the Municipality of Lunenburg.

Don Downe is not re-offering for the position in the October municipal election.

The 64 year-old has been mayor since 2008.

“It’s time to move on. It’s time to take time to be with the family, take time to be with the grandkids and enjoy a little bit of life with my wife and the kids.”

Downe says he’s proud of work done to change the municipality’s financial outlook.

He says the municipality has stopped borrowing money and will be debt-free by 2021.

Downe was also an MLA in Lunenburg West from 1993 to 2003.
