Students Protest Rising Tuition And Right To Safe Campus

A protest outside the Labour and Minister of Advanced Education’s office continues Thursday.

Students are protesting tuition hikes and the blocking of Bill 114–the Safer Universities and Colleges Act.

Michaela Sam, chairperson of the Canadian Federation of Students in Nova Scotia, says tuition in the province is the third highest in the country.

“We know that students right now are having to decide whether to buy text books or pay for groceries. And that’s not a decision that students should have to make,” said Sam.

Sam says they’re parked outside Kelly Regan’s office until she commits to passing legislation to combat sex abuse on campus and pledges to make post-secondary education more affordable.
