Don’t be surprised if you see police around crosswalks in Bridgewater over the next few weeks.
Sergeant Jerome Richard says complaints and incidents between drivers and pedestrians have been on the rise.
So, he says officers will be there to make sure pedestrians know that safety is a shared responsibility.
“What we will be doing is issuing warnings,” he says. “To let them know that the crosswalk beacon needs to be used and to give the drivers time to stop”
Richard says driver’s aren’t being let off the hook.
He says officers will speak with anyone who drives through crossing without yielding.
New fines in the province mean using cross walks improperly could be an expensive mistake.
Whether you’re a driver or a pedestrian you could get hit with an almost $700 ticket.
