Town of Yarmouth To Consider Stepping Back From Governance Of Airport

The agreement to run the Yarmouth International Airport Corporation comes to an end at the end of this month.

The Committee of the Whole past a motion to recommend that the full council exercise the option to step away.

Mayor Pam Mood tells CJLS News this doesn’t mean the town is abandoning the airport.

“We still understand the importance of the airport, that the airport continues; we’re simply stepping away from the governance piece of that. We have also said that we will continue to fund for the next couple of years, so we’re not walking away from any obligations”

Mayor Mood says the town will still be part of the funding partnership but they will leave the actual operating of the airport to the other municipalities.

“It’s just a matter of how many people are sitting at the table making decisions, how are those decisions made, and, you know, if there’s less people, things are done more quickly, and we trust our partners to carry on in the right manner”

She says the town is concentrating on running the ferry terminal and they have complete trust in the two other municipal units in Yarmouth County to run the airport.
