The newly minted Minister of Rural Economic Development is standing by the prime minister in the wake of the SNC Lavelin affair.
MP for South Shore – St. Margaret’s Bernadette Jordan answered questions about Jane Philpott’s recent resignation from cabinet while attending a community event in Caledonia.
Jordan says she’s sorry MP Jane Philpott felt she had to leave, but she personally feels supported by cabinet and Justin Trudeau.
“I’ve had a number of discussions with the prime Minster over the last three and half years … I’m not a quiet person, I’ve often voiced my opinion on things and … I have always felt I have been listened to, always.”
Jordan believes Prime Minister Trudeau is doing what he can to save thousands of jobs that could be impacted by the loss of SNC Lavelin.
“Those are jobs that are in communities right across this country and as part of my role and my portfolio, I am very concerned about the impact of losing any jobs, specifically in rural areas.”
Jordan took on the newly created Rural Economic Development portfolio in January after a cabinet shuffle, sparked by the resignation of MP Scott Brison.
Despite the loss of Philpott, Jordan says she doesn’t foresee any other resignations from cabinet.
Moving forward, she says her focus is on her riding and her new portfolio.
“For me … I continue to focus on the things I have always been focused on, which is the people in my riding, which is making things better for every day Canadians.”
