Police Investigating After Student Allegedly Approached By Stranger

RCMP are investigating after a student at a Liverpool elementary says they were approached by a stranger on school grounds.

Dr. John C. Wickwire’s principal sent an email to parents informing them of an incident that allegedly occurred a few weeks ago during recess time.

Angelina McConnell, communications manager for South Shore Regional Centre for Education, believes the child only recently informed parents.

“I think the student had just told their family and so their family upon hearing about it informed us straight away at the school level.”

McConnell says the RCMP doesn’t believe there is an imminent threat to students but she couldn’t release any more information.

The email sent to parents also stated school administration has been assured there is no threat to student safety at this time.

“Due to the allegation, we are taking precautionary measures to ensure parents and guardians are aware of this,” reads the email.

A RCMP spokesperson says they will publish a news release about the issue later today.
