And… Done

I finally managed to get my second shot of Saturday. It was the appointment I had originally made, back in March. In spite all of the pleas to get them sooner and move up our appointments, it seemed much easier said than done.

I spent a few weeks checking for available appointments every morning. I kept hoping to get the second shot moved up and get it over with. Most days, I would simply see “fully booked” beside all the clinics. Occasionally I would come across one that had an opening, but usually the openings were when I was working, so it just wasn’t possible to get the second shot sooner.

Many others did, and I’m not sure that helped. The second shot seemed to be the one people were getting a reaction to. Most of these weren’t bad, maybe a sore arm. Some were a day or two feeling under the weather. Others reported a big red rash near the injection site.

None of these seemed serious enough to not get the shot, but it seemed a bit concerning. Still, I arrived at my appointment just wanting to get this done.

I have to admit that the clinic itself was a well oiled machine, processing everyone very quickly and smoothly. And other than a sore arm, which I sort of expected, that was the only side effect that I had.

I know I still have a couple weeks to wait before full coverage really kicks in, but it makes me feel better to have it done. Yes, there is the feeling of knowing it will most likely protect you from severe illness, but the fact that you are far less likely to pass it on to others is the biggest thing, at least in my mind.

But it’s done. Maybe not as quickly as I had hoped, but it’s done.

It now seems likely we may have to get a booster every so often. Maybe we can go back to the methods of the past and use the sugar cube form of delivery? There wasn’t even a sore arm with that one.
