Trot In Time Buggy Rides is planning to return to the streets of Old Town Lunenburg.
After nearly two years of the business being unable to operate due to COVID-19 restrictions, the horses and their drivers are excited to return to giving tours of the historic town.
Basil Oickle, Owner of Trot In Time Buggy Rides said the last two years have been a huge financial struggle.
“It’s been a very, very hard burden on me,” explained Oickle “I’ve exhausted every credit card that I have, and even friends have helped me out towards the end.”
Oickle said this year he was forced to raise his prices to try to recover from the financial loss but remains hopeful that he will be able to keep his business afloat.
He said he’s excited but still nervous about the season ahead.
“I think its quite hopeful but again, whether there will be enough people that all of us can pay our bills for another year remains to be seen,” said Oickle.
He added that both drivers and passengers will have to follow all COVID-19 protocols when riding in the buggy, and everything will be sanitized in between rides.
Oickle said that he has already started to ease his horses back into work and was even able to take one of them into Lunenburg over the weekend for some love and attention from those on the waterfront.
He hopes to have his horses Ernie, Jack and Jake and his drivers back in Lunenburg giving tours by the end of this week.
