Lumberjacks Fall To Mariners, Lose Ground in Playoff Race

The South Shore Junior ‘A’ Lumberjacks lost a 4-3 decision to the Yarmouth Mariners last night in Bridgewater.

Nicolas Tardif, McKullen Astill and Christian Tsukamoto scored for the ‘Jacks while Ty Grant made 18 saves.

Head Coach and General Manager, Kyle MacAllister, says he was disappointed with his team’s effort.

“We didn’t battle real hard in the first 40 minutes and it showed. I thought they did a good job finishing their chances but that third period we came out hard and it just wasn’t enough. We have to play our game at all times. You can’t win hockey games with just 20 minutes.”

The loss, paired with Pictou’s 5-4 shootout loss to Campbellton, now has the Lumberjacks two points back of the Crushers for the final playoff spot in the Eastlink South Division.

The Lumberjacks head to Yarmouth tonight.

MacAllister say the message to the players is pretty simple.

“We have to play for 60 minutes and if were not, well we’re holding our own fate to a certain degree. Obviously, we’re trying to chase down Pictou. But, we just have to do a better job of being ready to play and caring and competing more consistently for a full game.”

Puck drop is 7:30 at the Mariners Centre.
