It’s been a dream season for Lunenburg’s Madison Beck.
The 17 year-old goaltender stopped 41 shots to help the Boston Junior Eagles defeat Shattuck-St. Mary’s 2-1 and win the Girls Tier-I Under-19 title at the USA Hockey National Championships in California.
The Eagles jumped out to an early 2-0 lead but the three-time defending champions from Shattuck didn’t go down without a fight, outshooting Boston 42-10.
Beck says it was an intense game from start to finish.
“My team did such an amazing job playing defensively and holding our lead,” says Beck.
“In the last five minutes we just kept icing the puck, we did whatever we had to do and blocking shots until that final buzzer. The bench erupted and it was absolutely incredible.”
Beck also won gold earlier this year with Canada at the Under-18 World Women’s Hockey Championship in Japan and represented Nova Scotia at the Canada Winter Games in Red Deer, Alberta.
“Going into the year this is something that you hope for but you never know if it’s actually going to happen and I’m so thankful for that,” adds Beck.
“I don’t know if I could top this year because it’s been so incredible.”
She says it’s time for a well-deserved break before returning to the ice this summer.
