Municipality To Hire Consultant To Explore Accessibility at Welkum Park

The Municipality of Shelburne is looking to hire a consultant to conduct an accessibility review of Welkum Park.

The province has announced new accessibility standards for shared public spaces will be released in 2022.

Warden Penny Smith says they want to get a head start on the process.

“The municipality understands the importance of accessibility to the overall well-being of our residents and is committed to improving access.”

Smith says she expects a request for proposals to be issued soon after money was set aside in this year’s budget.

She says the consultant would provide them with recommendations on how to make the park fully accessible for everyone to enjoy.

Welkum Park is a small day use park and beach located on Welshtown Lake.
