Chester Running Low On Grant Funding

It’s only a few months into the fiscal year but one local municipality is already keeping an eye on its requests for money. Chester recently awarded a $15,000 grant to the society overseeing the Lightfoot Tower Restoration Project. The financial contribution left the municipality with roughly $10,000 in their grants budget. Warden Allen Webber says they will try and make things work. He says, “We’re in a position where we have flexibility if we require flexibility. We’ll try to live within the budget we set but if the right project comes along, council will just have to make the choice if they want to fund it or not.” The Chester Trust were looking at a $23,000 deficit before seeking financial assistance from the municipality. Webber says the Lightfoot Tower is a significant project with great historical value that is important to the community.
