Major Bantam ‘Jacks Begin Play at Provincials

The South Shore Major Bantam Lumberjacks open up play in the provincial championships today in Pictou County.

The ‘Jacks square off against the Rangers at 4 p.m. at the Pictou County Wellness Centre.

All three regular season meetings between the two teams were decided by one goal, with the Rangers winning two of them.

Head Coach Shawn Woodworth says it will be a good test to start the tournament.

“They have stingy ‘D’. We have to come heavy on our forecheck, create some opportunities and get pucks to the net,” says Woodworth.

“They don’t score a lot of goals so we know we’ll be in a hockey game.”

The Lumberjacks will play two more games Friday and one Saturday morning to end the round robin.

Woodworth says expectations are high and believes his team should advance to the final four.
