No Fix Soon For “Washboard Road”

The MLA for Yarmouth says he’s had many complaints about a very bumpy piece of road in Arcadia.

The short stretch along Trunk 3 on Highway 3 has become infamous for damaging some vehicles and enraging motorists who take to social media to complain.

Zach Churchill says the road has been severely altered by this winter’s weather.

He tells CJLS News the section of road was not included in the 2019-2020 highways capital plan.

“It’s a pretty significant investment to do that, so we have had conversations, I know with the local TIR folks and folks in Halifax as well and what the potential options are for that.”

Local motorists know only too well about the section of Highway 3 in Arcadia…it’s a rough ride with some saying it’s like driving on a “washboard”.

Churchill says says increased signage is all that can be done at this point.

“In terms of fixing that problem, you’re looking at multiple millions of dollars that it would take to deal with that stretch of road. We do have a lot of road pressures in Yarmouth County and we just need to develop a plan to tackle them all on a priority basis.”

The worst part runs about 150 metres.

Someone has spray painted the pavement to mark the bumps.

Don Houston of TIR tells us increased signage was placed there on Tuesday warning of the bad piece of road.
