Barrington: Public Share Ideas of Potential New Recreation Centre

The community has had their say on a potential new recreation centre in the Municipality of Barrington.

Roughly three dozen people attended a public meeting recently to share their ideas.

Those included a rock climbing wall, indoor swimming pool and more kitchen space.

Other suggestions included a space for arts and culture, child care, and a skate park.

CAO Chris Frotten says he was pleased to see a variety of people from different communities.

“With the big projects, we want to get feedback from the community and guide us on the needs and the wants on what could be incorporated in the new building.”

The current centre is over 50 years old and in poor condition.

Frotten says he’s hopeful all ideas gathered will be put together in a report and be presented to council sometime in April.

Once that is complete, the new recreation centre is expected to be designed over the summer.

The design will then be finalized in the fall to apply for funding opportunities.
