Nova Scotia Community College has taken a big step to removing financial barriers for their students.
The college raised $32.6 million dollars during their initial four-year long Make Way campaign.
NSCC President Don Bureaux made the announcement Monday at Lunenburg Campus in Bridgewater.
He says partnerships between community members and corporate partners helped the college exceed their initial $25 million dollar goal.
“This is another great example of Nova Scotia showing just how generous it can be. That people stepped up and they opened their hearts, their souls and their wallets to help our students be successful. For that, we’re very thankful.”
Lunenburg Campus Principal Craig Collins says students often have to make difficult choices.
“Do I not attend campus anymore because I have financial difficulties? Do I not pay a bill or put food on the table? Providing an opportunity for students to access these funds will alleviate some of that stress and worry for them.”
Bureaux says students will be able to access funding through bursaries, scholarships and urgent aid funding.
