Time to Pin Your Poppy

It’s once again time to wear your poppy and show your support for veterans.

The annual poppy sale helps raise funds veterans can access for anything from health care to getting a couple dollars for groceries.

Wayne Thorburne, with Royal Canadian Legion Branch 24 said wearing a poppy is the least we can do.

“It’s a day of mourning, it’s a time of remembrance and a time of respect for our veterans, this is what it’s all about” said Thorburne.

“It’s not much of an effort for us to try and remember.”

Although pins have been sold in previous years to keep it on you, Thorburne said he thinks there is only one way to properly wear it.

“This is my opinion only, because it all depends whether you’re in the service or out of the service, there are pros and cons for eveything,” he said.

“But, I try and wear mine over my heart and that’s where I personally think it belongs.”

Backs for the poppy will also be provided so pins don’t have to be used to keep them in place.

Poppies go on sale October 27, and they will be setting up at NSLC, Bridgewater Mall and a number of places across the county.
