Travis Wolfe of Queens County was one of four people honoured as a hero yesterday.
The Port Joli resident received a Medal of Bravery after saving his neighbour from her burning house last February.
Despite all the attention, Wolfe says he sees things a little differently.
“What I did I didn’t really consider to be anything of a hero, just what I would want anyone to do for me if I was in the same circumstance,” he says.
“So it’s quite humbling.”
He says he didn’t think about how scary it was, it was just a reflex.
“You knew you could do something so you had to do whatever you could.”
Wolfe says he was shoveling his grandparent’s driveway when an explosion went off nearby.
He drove to the house and felt his way around the smoke.
He found his neighbour on the floor and carried her out.
Even with the smoke inhilation he says he would do it again if he had to.
Shane Bernard, Liam Bernard and Eric Nickerson are the three other recepients at yesterday’s event
