South Shore Girls To Play Parliament Hill

A South Shore minor hockey team has won the honour to play a game on Parliament Hill.

The Girls PeeWee A Western Riptides are the only female team from Nova Scotia selected to take part in the event between Christmas and New Year’s.

As part of the Canada 150 celebrations, an outdoor rink has been created on the hill.

The team had to submit a video and poem telling why they should be chosen.

Parent, Nicole Tanner says the girls were excited to learn they had won.

“This is fantastic right?! Little Bridgewater – South Shore area and we’ve got our girls heading to parliament. This is amazing. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for them.”

Tanner says the team’s travel expenses are covered but they will be fundraising to send some parents as chaperones.
