A Bridgewater man diagnosed with ALS is getting help from a local junior hockey team.
The South Shore Lumberjacks are donating 50% of the gate proceeds from Friday night’s home game against the Miramichi Timberwolves towards Owen Thomas’ battle against the disease.
Owen’s brother, Ethan, says it’s great to see support from the community.
He says his brother loved to play music, work out and enjoy the outdoors but that’s all changed.
“After this diagnosis, it’s kind of taken everything away from him. He was practicing law here in town and he can’t work anymore just because it’s too difficult for him to get around or move.”
Thomas says his brother won’t be able to attend the hockey game because it would be too painful.
Ethan says his brother is in good spirits and he’s hopeful treatment can be discovered to help him recover.
“It’s really put things in perspective when it comes to looking at what’s important and what’s not.”
Tickets for the game can be purchased online or at the door on Friday night.
