Safer Walking And Falling As We Slip Into Spring

Could it be that Sprinter (Spring/Winter) has started early and we won’t actually get cold weather and snow? The Farmers Almanac is saying that next month will be more wintery, but even if that does happen, the sun is getting warmer already. Warm sun might feel good on a winter day, but it also causes melting. That melted snow then makes ice and the next morning, look out.
Anyone that was driving North Street yesterday morning, the guy you saw laying by the Country 100.7 cruiser, that was me, haha. While brushing the snow off my feet found a patch of ice and I got to test how hard the pavement is with my posterior.

We often talk about the best ways to prevent falls, but they do happen, so how should you fall? The experts tell you to go limp, easier said than done I know, “Once you start to fall, try to relax as much as you can. Don’t brace up as that will increase your risk for injuries,” Here are all the details:

Walking tips for safer strolls AND falls this winter

Last year I remember reading the recommendations for walking on slippery surfaces, telling us to walk like a penguin.

Now I see that this idea has been reconsidered. Seems the penguins don’t always know best and intentional steps, bending your knees is the best way to go. Here is the video proof.

Regardless of the technique you use, be careful and stay safe this winter.
