Yesterday I thought I was in the twilight zone when a friend at the local feed store started talking with her coworker about what they do above and beyond for their chickens.
Now I get that things like chickens have a bit different standing on a farm, especially in the past. Growing up the thought of a pet chicken was about the same as having a calf sleep in your bed, just silly.
Well as I learned yesterday, pet chickens are now very common. To the point that they even have chicken diapers, so the critters can live in your house.
I do give extra favorite feed to the cattle somedays and on holidays. Same goes for the donkey and the chickens do get greens from the garden in the summer, but the line is drawn when it comes to them coming in the house.
It does seem that it is more and more common for pets to be enjoying more of a pampered lifestyle than they used to though. The family dog used to get a new bone once in awhile but now pets live high on the hog with the average household spending over $700 per year on their pet and I know that is a low number.
