Back after a few days off and during that time away I got to enjoy one of my favorite restaurants one last time. I always said that the best view in Lunenburg was from Big Reds Restaurant and they also made one heck of a nice seafood chowder. They closed their doors over the weekend and I for one am going to miss them. Here is the post from their Facebook page with the news:
There comes a time when things have to change. We are deeply saddened that this Sunday, Feb. 27 will be our last day at Big Red’s in Lunenburg. A very emotional time for us, as we have employed hundreds of wonderful people over the last 37 years and were happy to serve a multitude of customers, who we so deeply appreciate. Words cannot express the difficulty of making this decision. We are grateful to you, our customers. With our excitement when we began to renovate this building in 1985, we didn’t anticipate the end of this journey. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Our best wishes to all of you. God Bless, and thank you!!!! Big Red’s in Chester will continue to be open.
Hopefully another restaurant will move into that location so that view of the harbour can be enjoyed again.
A changing community is a part of life and there is one guy that thrives on that. “Still Standing” on CBC sees comedian Jonny Harris travelling to towns that have experienced changes that adjusted life greatly for the residents. I doubt that Big Reds closing will bring him to Lunenburg, but last night he did focus on the closure of the railroad in Middleton, Nova Scotia. Take a few minutes and check it out. Enjoy.
