What a way to lead into the Father’s Day weekend, with National Eat Your Vegetables Day. For those of you that are not fans of the veg, today was designed as a great time to give them a try.
It also might be the perfect day to plan the final planting of your garden, just in case you are a bit behind like me.
Let’s start by looking at the favorite vegetables enjoyed by Canadians, and no Canola oil in this list. (Canola is a made up name given to the product that comes from the Rape plant since no one wants to buy or sell Rape Oil)
Potatoes, carrots, apples and strawberries are Canada’s most popular produce
So now that we know where the preferences are regarding vegetables in Canada, what can we grow? Darn near anything, except coconuts bananas and pineapples, those are a challenge for our climate so far.
Here are the top vegetables to grow in our country:

Since we now know what Canadians like to eat and grow, what about health? Yeah I know, they are vegetables, they are all good for you right? While that is a pretty safe rule of thumb, there are some vegetables that are better for you than others and here are the healthiest veggies to enjoy.
I don’t know about you, but for me, when I think about Father’s Day, I just want to cook something on the grill. But the BBQ is for cooking meat, right?
Nope, that is not true. From breakfast to dessert and everything in between, yes even vegetables can be cooked on the grill.
If BBQing vegetables sounds like a new concept, this video should help you with veggie grilling for recipes and technique.
Dad’s, as long as we try some vegetables today, the rest of the weekend is ours to enjoy and cook what we want, haha.
I found this video of grilling tips. Might be something in it to try that will help you gain the title of Grill King!
Whatever your plans are for Father’s Day weekend, I hope you have a great time celebrating Dad.
