As we wrap up 2025, some are looking back with fond memories, some with sadness as they remember events that took place over the past twelve months. Is there some way to ensure that there will be more ups than downs during the new year? Around the world there are many traditions that some say will offer a bright future.
Tonight as we prepare to welcome a new year, what can we do to ensure 2026 will be a lucky one?
Let’s start with what some say you should NOT DO on New Year’s Eve and the superstitions around tonight.
A common superstition says that keeping the windows and doors open will let the old year out. According to some cultures lobster is a bad luck treat for tonight because the crustaceans move backward and therefore that meal could hold you back for the year. AND be sure to share a smooch as a kiss at the stroke of midnight is said to help prevent a year of loneliness

Some will make resolutions for the new year, a practice that dates back more than 4000 years and others will be more concerned with who walks through their door after midnight.
In Spain they will say you need to eat grapes, Ireland suggests placing mistletoe under your pillow, and in Turkey they pomegranates on their doorstep. The more pieces there are and the farther they spread, the more prosperous the year will be.
