Turns out next week could be interesting here on The South Shore. Right now, Hurricane Teddy is heading this way. We all know things can change quite quickly when it comes to hurricanes/tropical storms and the weather.
But hey….It’s best to be prepared.
Here’s the latest update on Teddy’s tracking: “The National Hurricane Center brings Teddy south of Nova Scotia early Tuesday morning as a Category 2 hurricane with a transition to a Post-Tropical Storm (with Category 1 hurricane-force winds) expected to occur sometime between that point on Tuesday and early Wednesday morning.”
The way I look at it. It’s always best to be prepared and get your hurricane/storm kit ready. According to the Emergency Management Office (EMO), here’s what you should put together and do to prepare for Teddy:
The basic checklist includes:
- enough food and water for 72 hours
- monitoring local media outlets for updates
- securing gates, doors and windows
- moving yard furniture and securing trash cans, hanging plants and anything that can be picked up by wind
- checking radio batteries
- filling vehicles with gas and parking them away from trees
- keeping pets inside
- moving any type of watercraft to high ground
- ensure the safety of you and your family
- check on neighbours
- if the power has gone out, do not leave candles unattended —–EMO
We of course will keep you up to date on Hurricane Teddy as next week rolls around on Country 100.7!!
