Heritage 2026 Day honors Joseph Willie Comeau

Heritage Day is Monday in Nova Scotia when we celebrate the people and stories that helped shape our province.

Each year, Nova Scotia honors a different historical figure, and for 2026, the spotlight is on Joseph Willie Comeau from Clare, Digby County.

He was an Acadian educator, community leader, and one of the longest-serving politicians in Canadian history. He was also a dedicated family man who raised 16 (!!!) children while balancing his public service and community work.

Comeau was first elected to the Nova Scotia legislature back in 1907 and spent decades advocating for Acadian culture, French language rights, and education across the province.

You can learn more about him and his life here.
