Lunenburg County Woman Heads To Toronto For New Lungs

There’s finally some light at the end of the tunnel for a cystic fibrosis patient in Lunenburg County.

Thanks to support from the community Jennifer Crouse has enough money to travel, live and wait in Toronto for a double lung transplant.

Crouse says she could be waiting for up to two years.

“I won’t know the date until I get up there and get put on the list,” she says.” Then when the lungs become available I’ll get the surgery.”

And, then there’s the post-op recovery period.

“After my surgery I do have to wait three to six months in Toronto,” she says. “Just to make sure the lungs have adapted to my body before I come home.”

Crouse says the government funding stops short of all expenses and is grateful for the continued support from the community.

She says initial costs will be covered to get there, but ongoing support will be needed over the long term.
