Lunenburg Academy Gets A Boost In Long Climb

The Lunenburg Academy is getting a small boost in the long climb to transforming the old school.

The Province announced $10,000 will go to the Foundation to help determine next steps.

Foundation president, Roxanna Smith says hiring a consultant to guide them through the process is a priority.

“We’re going to do a feasibility study to see exactly what has to be done. Keeping in mind that we want to preserve the heritage,” said Smith.

The Town of Lunenburg’s Mayor Rachel Bailley says a consultant will be hired to help better understand the building’s long-term sustainability.

“The province is most interested in the governance piece. You know, how are going to manage this building in the long term?” said Bailley.

The Communities, Culture and Heritage department committed to close to $28,000 to the preservation of heritage properties in Lunenburg County.

St. John’s Anglican Church in Lunenburg is also getting $10,000.

Northwest United Baptist Church received $3,237.10, Janet Palmer of Lunenburg $1,600.00 and Trinity United Church in Mahone Bay will also use the money to help preserve the maintain and preserve the heritage properties and culture.
