The long weekend is here and it’s looking like the sun will be shining.
That will get two things very active outside, the black flies and the gardeners.
As the soil gets perfect for planting and you start dropping seeds and hoping for a good yield, there is sadly no guarantee anything will grow.
I love to grow a garden and the older I get, the more I want to try anything I can to get the garden to work. Nothing worse than planting and weeding and then having nothing to show for your work.
Today I have some tricks for successfully growing onions.
Apparently it is the old way of getting onion sets started by soaking them before planting.
I can’t say that I have tried this yet, but I will be this year!
Basically you soak the onion sets in baking soda and let the bulbs sit in the bath for exactly six hours. Then when you plant the sets you need to have some wood ash on hand. Here are the details:

Now for those of you that are starting a garden for the first time, I found this video of things to know before you hoe the ground.
Here’s hoping it rains enough, the sun shines when needed and the weeds all move away. haha
Happy growing.
