Richard Oren Snyder

Age 79, of New Germany, Lunenburg Co., died on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born on January 26, 1947, in Bridgewater, he was a son of the late Oran and Vera (Mader) Snyder.

In Richard’s younger years, while living in Ontario, he built televisions for Philco and raised chickens, but then later relocated back to New Germany, where he spent most of his working years as a forklift operator at the former Canexcel Hardboard Plant, in East River. For many years, Richard also worked part-time as an Emergency Medical Attendant with the former Langille’s Ambulance Service, also while volunteering as a firefighter with the New Germany Volunteer Fire Department for 31 years; both of which he was very proud to do. He loved to go for drives and enjoyed visiting with family and friends. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. 

Surviving are his daughters, Nena Snyder, Dartmouth; Julie (Darren) Harvey, Durban, Manitoba; Angela Snyder-Colp (Galen), Pine Grove; his granddaughters, Zola Harvey and Lyric Colp; his companion, Shirley Crouse, Cookville, and her family; also surviving are his brothers, Michael (Julia) Snyder, New Germany; Dereck (Lorraine) Snyder, Stanley Section, and Cedric Snyder, New Germany; sister-in-law Lorna Trethewey;  brothers-in-law Ronnie Chase and Alan (Janice) Chase; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Barbara (Chase) Snyder in 2007; sister-in-law, Peggy Chase; nephew, Jason Trethewey; and brother-in-law and close friend, Horton Trethewey. 

There will be visitation on Sunday, May 24 from 6-8 p.m., in Sweeny’s Funeral Home, #4895 Highway 10, New Germany. Service in Loving Remembrance will be held 2 p.m., Monday, May 25 in Barss Corner Baptist Church, Rev. Catherine Robar officiating, assisted by Rev. Paul Hatfield. Family burial will follow in Barss Corner Community Cemetery.
