DFO seizes more than 1,000 pounds of lobster in southwest Nova Scotia

Fisheries and Oceans Canada says fishery officers seized more than 1,000 pounds of lobster and arrested three people earlier this month in Port La Tour.

According to DFO, the seizure took place May 14. Officials say the lobster was valued at $9,899.50.

The following day, fishery officers also seized 72 lobster traps in Lobster Fishing Area 33 that were either untagged or carrying invalid tags.

DFO says officers first detected the non-compliant traps during at-sea patrols.

Officials say a later inspection at the wharf determined the lobster had been caught by commercial harvesters using the traps to exceed authorized catch limits.

No further information about the arrests has been released.
