Suspicious death investigation launched after fire in Antigonish County

Police are investigating a suspicious death after a residential fire in Upper Big Tracadie.

Emergency crews were called to the fire at approximately 8:25 p.m. Saturday.

After the blaze was extinguished, a deceased man was found on the property.

Investigators are now working with the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service and the Office of the Fire Marshal to determine the circumstances surrounding the death and the fire.

Police say the investigation remains in its early stages and additional information will be released as it becomes available.

Investigators have also stated they do not believe the death is connected to a homicide investigation launched following the death of a 42-year-old man in nearby West Arm Tracadie on May 21.

Anyone with information that may assist investigators is being asked to contact police.
