Robert “Bob” Carlyle

Robert “Bob” Carlyle, 90, of Petite Riviere NS, passed away peacefully with family by his side on May 28th, 2026, in the South Shore Regional Hospital. Born on July 8th, 1935, in Renfrew ON, he was the son of the late Herman “Hall” and Martha (Dick) Carlyle.

Bob graduated from Queen’s University with a degree in Metallurgical Engineering. He went on to achieve the specialized credential of Professional Engineer (P. Eng) and enjoyed a long and successful career in the nickel mining industry and consulting.

Outside of his professional career, Bob, along with his wife Sally, was fortunate to have travelled the world extensively over the years. He also loved walking the beautiful trails and beaches of the South Shore in Nova Scotia. His greatest pleasure was in the role of grandfather or “Gramps” as he was known to his grandchildren.

Bob is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Sally; and his children, Margot (Ian) Day of St. Catharine’s ON, Stephen of The Pas MB, Gregory (Anne-Marie) of Philadelphia, Mississippi; and his three grandchildren, Alex (Lauren), Andrew, and Emma; as well as many nieces and nephews. 

Besides his parents, Bob was predeceased by his brother, Alton Carlyle. 

Cremation has taken place, and as per Robert’s wishes there will be no formal service. Donations in his memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Nova Scotia, or to a charity of choice.
