Overnight power outages planned for parts of Lunenburg area

Residents in several areas around Lunenburg are being advised to prepare for overnight power outages as crews continue work to upgrade the town’s electrical system.

The Town of Lunenburg Electric Utility says emergency repairs are required on the main transformer at the Starr Street Substation.

The work is scheduled to take place overnight and will affect customers in different areas for varying lengths of time.

Customers in Old Town, Blue Rocks and the industrial area are expected to experience outages from approximately 9 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Meanwhile, customers in the Bridgewater Road, Victoria Road, Newtown, Mason’s Beach and First Peninsula areas could be without power from approximately 9 p.m. until 3 a.m.

The utility says the repairs are necessary as it continues a series of infrastructure upgrades aimed at improving reliability across the system.

The outage follows several recent projects involving transformer replacements and electrical system improvements throughout Lunenburg and surrounding communities.

“The safety of both residents and workers is a top priority,” the utility said in its notice to customers.

Residents looking for detailed outage information can find more info on the town’s website.
