This is nothing new and I think that the reason I am noticing it more lately is similar to the discussion about getting older. You know when you are getting older, when you hear the music you used to party to in elevators, haha.
Over the past two weeks there have been a few commercials that stuck out due to the fact I noticed the song. The first one was Subway as they have adopted the Spice Girls Wannabe, “Tell me what you want, what you really really want”. Certainly a popular tune when I used to DJ and now being used to sell foot longs.
Tim Hortons has decided to go with Donna Lewis for their latest push. As you are enticed to go out and get an ice cap you are reminded that Tims has always been there with “I Love You Always Forever“
Then last night I heard a very familiar tune during a car commercial. I always thought this country tune would pair well with the idea of a car and a getaway, seems Car Guru agrees as they used the Willie Nelson classic “On the Road Again” for their new commercial. But this is certainly not the first time Willie’s tune has been selling cars. I found this classic from the 1980’s:
The fact that I remember these businesses and their commercials means their plan is working, they got my attention and that is the name of the game.

I can’t say that I remember all these advertising tunes listed, but these are listed as the most iconic advertising tunes:

Now I can’t stop thinking about what songs would connect well to products. Like Great Big Sea “When I’m Up I Can’t Get Down” to promote roofing or Johnny Paycheck “Take This Job and Shove It” for a retirement planning company. Have some fun thinking of products and songs that belong together.
