Smoke has blanketed downtown Bridgewater Wednesday afternoon, as dozens of crews fight an apartment fire that has shut down a section of King Street.
Deputy Chief Danny MacPhee tells Acadia News the call came in just before noon. The building remains “fully engulfed” with flames that have moved to the residence next door and vehicle.
“We evacuated almost immediately,” says MacPhee. “I know one person was in one of the units when I arrived.”
He says, however, there are no reported injuries at this point.

“Fire is actively fighting it,” says MacPhee. “They’re doing a fantastic job containing it to the two buildings with all their partners in the region.”
McPhee asks you to avoid the area from Dufferin Street to Crescent Street. Power has also been turned off to the area and traffic control is in place.
He adds, there is no indication that the fire was criminal in nature and the cause is currently unknown.
We will have more information as it comes in.
