Bridgewater: Health Authority Looking For Stricter Enforcement On Smoking

Bridgewater is exploring options that could mean stricter enforcement of smoking at South Shore Regional Hospital. South Shore Health has requested the town change their ‘Second Hand Smoking’ bylaw to include the property. Mayor David Walker says they will take the issue to the police commission. He adds, “It’s good to have input from the police board and from the chief and that will come back to council and we’ll look at what can we do, if anything, maybe there is nothing we can do but we’ll see what the report says.” South Shore Health has a no smoking policy but believe enforcement would reduce the number of violations. The bylaw currently offers fines of $200.
