Burg Classic Charity Hockey Tournament Returns For Fifth Year

Ten local recipients will benefit from a weekend of hockey and entertainment in Lunenburg County.

This is the fifth annual Burg Classic Charity Hockey Tournament.

Thirty games are scheduled at the Lunenburg Arena and the Lunenburg County Lifestyle Centre between Thursday and Sunday.

Committee member Chad Parks says the tournament has grown from four teams to 16.

“It’s, to some degree, outgrown itself. The support is incredible with the people who turn up to the rink, the support from local businesses and even personal donations to the charitable causes. It’s fantastic.”

Committee member Jayme Niford says they expanded to Bridgewater this year to help keep the tournament at its current size.

“We want to keep as many people in the community involved that we possibly can, so if that means going to additional arenas to kind of keep us in motion and service the players and their work schedules then that’s what we’ll do.”

The 16 teams are particpating in recreational and competitive divisions.

Money will be raised through the hockey tournament, silent auction, and a dance on Saturday night.

Some of the recipients are listed below while others wished to remain anonymous.

The tournament schedule is listed below.
