Some of the best spirits in the world can be found in Lunenburg.
Ironworks Distillery has announced they’ve won five medals at the World Spirits Awards.
The awards, which are handed out in Germany, are known for how critically the judges assess the competitors.
Co-Owner Lynne MacKay says they surprised the judges.
“We were just tickled to be actually living up to the standard that they expected. And I think they were probably kind of intrigued by the fact that we were this tiny little distillery hanging on the edge of North America.”
Ironworks Distillery’s Gin and Apple Brandy both received gold medals while their Aged Pear Eau de Vie, Amber and Bluenose Rums all captured silver.
Staff at Ironworks learned the results of the competition a few weeks ago but had to keep it to themselves until the official announcement was made last week.
