Energize Bridgewater is an 18-month project that started last summer to develop local, efficient and renewable energy.
Minister of Business, Mark Furey, made the announcement Monday on behalf of the energy minister.
He says the town is doing its part to help the province move toward a cleaner energy economy.
“The initiative and focus around green energy, the provincial plan, a transition from fossil fuels to wind to other alternate sources of energy; this is foundation work that the town is doing and leading.”
The project is expected to result in practical energy demonstration projects, innovative partnerships, increased knowledge and skills.
Bridgewater’s sustainability planner is thrilled with the news.
Leon de Vreede says the province is supporting innovative work.
“The efforts of the town and its energy partners have been making in the past few years are being noticed, are being valued and that we’re on the right track.”
de Vreede says the money will help provide an in-depth energy analysis.
It will also help establish a large energy conference in Bridgewater in late October.
