A former town councillor in Bridgewater is calling on the mayor to resign.
Greg Ritcey, who served on council from 2008 to 2012, believes David Mitchell should step down following council’s decision to turn the DesBrisay Museum into a seasonal operation.
Ritcey, who is also a museum commission board member, feels Mitchell isn’t thinking about people or the decision’s impact on the town.
“He was voted for to save tax money but I can tell you that closing the museum and initiating buses is not going to save money.”
The town will debate whether it will move forward with a pilot transit program in its budget delberations.
Meanwhile, Mayor Mitchell understands Ritcey is concerned with council’s decision.
Mitchell says the decision was not solely his but a vote among the seven members and he will not resign.
“There is really no need to tender anyone’s resignation for doing the job that we have been elected to do and that was to make change and that’s exactly what we’ve done.”
Mitchell says it will take time but the town will work with the Museum Commission and Friends of the DesBrisay to make the facility the best it can be as a seasonal operation.
