A windfall of provincial funding for the Town of Lunenburg.
MLA Suzanne Lohnes-Croft announced the province is providing $1 million dollars to maintain and revitalize Lunenburg Academy.
Lohnes-Croft made the announcement at the Academy today.

She says the money will go a long way to moving the restoration of the building forward.
“Our province really recognizes the struggles that the town of Lunenburg has had. And these people have been working for a long time to get funding. You know, ten years they’ve been looking for substantial funding for this building.”
Mayor Rachel Bailey says the money will help restore and establish the Academy as a community hub.
Some residents of the town have expressed concern that the building isn’t self-sustaining.
Bailey says the Academy is a community property just like an arena or any other recreation facility
“This is a community cultural enterprise centre [and] may always have a cost. What we want to make sure is that it is a very manageable cost that every taxpayer will appreciate as being a benefit of living in this community.”
Bailey says this investment from the province will also demonstrate a commitment to the Academy that will help when asking for federal funding.

In addition to the Lunenburg Academy announcement, the province is also contributing $45,000 to the Lunenburg Academy of Music Performance to increase program capacity and sustainability.
A portion of that money will go towards marketing and recruitment efforts as well as to build an in-house recording studio.
