Shelburne Pumpkin Festival and Regatta brings together the community for fall fun

Nova Scotia’s biggest pumpkins were back in Shelburne this weekend.

The Nova Scotia Giant Pumpkin Festival and Regatta ran on Friday Oct. 9 and Saturday Oct. 10.

The event brought together spectators and racers from across the province. Would-be racers were encouraged to apply with videos sharing who they are, where they’re from and why they would make good competitors in the regatta.

This year’s event had more than just the pumpkin race. Guests had food vendors, face painting, live music, a lumber show, dancing witches, a pumpkin dash and much more to keep them entertained.

The main event, the pumpkin regatta, saw returning racer Parker Neily take first place, and his father, Will Neily, finishing right behind him in second.

In the giant pumpkin contest, Craig Swim surpassed the rest of the competition by nearly 1,000 pounds, with his massive pumpkin weighing in at 1510 pounds.
