To celebrate Municipal Awareness Week, the Municipality Of The District Of Lunenburg is hosting its first-ever open house called Supper’s On, Let’s Chat on Tuesday, November 10, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the municipal office.
The open house will feature displays from every municipal department, giving people a chance to learn more about local services and programs. From waste collection and recreation programs to engineering projects and emergency preparedness.
Several community organizations will also be on site, including the Northfield and District Fire Department, which will bring a fire truck, and Lunenburg County Wheels.
As the event name suggests, there’s also free food available, along with interactive displays, conversations with staff, and opportunities to win prizes.
Mayor Elspeth McLean-Wile joined Ben Holmes for a chat about the importance of engaging the public in municipal government!
“Municipal government is the government closest to people,” said McLean-Wile. “We hear directly from residents all the time, whether it’s at the grocery store, a hockey game, or out for a walk.”
McLean-Wile went on to say the event is also a chance to showcase some of the major projects currently underway in the municipality, including the demolition of the former Centre School, work at Saw Pit Wharf, the redesign of Wiles Lake Park, and upgrades to the Cookville wastewater treatment facility, the largest infrastructure project in the municipality’s history.
Residents of MODL can drop in, ask questions, learn more about municipal programs, and connect with staff and council members. Those interested can also stay afterward to observe the regular council meeting beginning at 6 p.m.
Supper’s On, Let’s Chat takes place Tuesday, November 10, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Municipality of the District of Lunenburg office.
