It was a big night for the governing Liberals in three provincial byelections.
The Grits took both Cape Breton ridings – long held by the NDP.
Liberal Derek Mombourquette took Sydney-Whitney Pier by almost 1,500 votes.
Meantime, Cape Breton Centre turned red with David Wilton taking the seat by more than 500 ballots.
Dartmouth-South was a nail biter between the Liberals and NDP – where a recount is expected.
The NDP’s Marian Mancini had the unofficial win by less than 100 votes over Liberal Tim Rissesco.
The Tories finished well behind in each of the by-elections.
